1.5 Kg gold seized, 1.71 lakh fine realised

Commercial Taxes sleuths on Thursday realised Rs. 1.71588 penalty from a man for clandestinely importing a consignment of gold weighing 1.5 kg (gross weight) at Lakhanpur Check-Post.
As per information a routine naka led by Commercial Tax team, during naka team nabbed a resident of Jammu, from a bus coming from Amritsar and seized 1.5 kg of gold ornaments. Which were being smuggled into the State without valid documents and by evading tax, a department official said. During preliminary questioning, the accused claimed the gold belongs to a jewellery shop in Srinagar, he said.
The Department has imposed a penalty of Rs 1.71588 on him and released the material.
