Ramban, April 10
Ramban Police today claimed to have arrested two drug peddlers and recovered 400 kilograms “Poppy Straw” from their possession. The arrested persons have been identified as driver Rajinder Ram son of Sodi Ram of Rampur Kapurthala Punjab and conductor Sukhvinder Ram son of Lal Chand of Rampur Punjab.
Police said that on the tip off, a police party of Police Station Ramban laid down a naka at T-chowk, Banihal and intercepted a truck bearing registration number PB32 F-3855. Police said while noticing the naka, driver of the above said truck tried to escape from the naka site but alert police men chased him and stopped him.
During search of the said vehicle, police recovered 400 kilograms “Poppy Straw” hide at the roof top of the truck covered by tripaul.
Police at once arrested both driver and conductor of the truck and seized the recovered material and truck.
In this regard, a case has been registered under FIR number 34/2017 under section 8/15 NDPS act at Police Station Banihal.
The whole operation/drive was conducted in continuation to the day to day spreading drug menace/abuse which is contemporary challenge.
It is worthwhile to mention here that during past two months, since beginning of drive against drug menace, hundreds of kilograms Poppy straw (bukhi), illicit liquor, Heroin, other contrabands were seized and offenders were booked under relevant laws.
The investigation to unearth whole gang of Narcotic smugglers is going on. The whole operation conducted by Station House Officer (SHO) Police station Banihal Inspector Mohammad Afzal Wani under the supervision of SDPO Banihal, Deeraj Katoch, and over all guidance of Additional Superintendent of Police Ramban, Mushtaq Choudhary and SSP Ramban, Mohan Lal.
