A tense situation prevailed in Dimapur town following a crude bomb made out of gelatin stick that exploded at New Dhansiri bridge area of Dimapur injuring two persons, one of them seriously, travelling in separate vehicles.
According to official sources, one improvised crude bomb with splinters was exploded at around 0630 hrs yesterday hitting another vehicles along the National Highway 29 near the New Dhansiri Bridge, where one of the injured who was travelling in a four wheeler sustained head injuries from the bomb’s splinters. The victim is reportedly in a serious condition and undergoing treatment. The other injured, who was riding another four wheeler, is stated to be out of danger.
The two victims, identified as Along Konyak (21yrs) and Ringdhar Girisa (27 yrs), both passersby, were injured in the blast.
The injured were later rushed to a private Hospital.
Girisa was stated to be out of danger, while the condition of Konyak is reportedly in a critical condition and had been referred to Guwahati for further treatment.
Sources said that the explosion also hit the vehicle of Dr Ronald Lotha, the General Secretary of the newly formed Nagaland Congress, however, he escaped unhurt.
Dr Lotha said he was returning home when the blast took place.
The splinters of the explosive hit the rear window and front door of his car.
He reported the matter to the patrolling police personnel along the way and filed an FIR with East Police station Dimapur in this regard.
Sources said the motive of the explosion was not yet clear and it was not denied that the bomb was targeted to someone, however, investigation was on to ascertain the cause of blast.
Local residents and various organisations have strongly condemned the blast, when the people are preparing to celebrate New Year and appealed to the authorities to apprehend the culprits of the blast, who have shutter the peaceful atmosphere in this festive season.
