2 nabbed with 10 kg ‘Bukki’

The police today arrested two smugglers and recovered 10 kg of poppy straw (Bukki) from their possession near Thannamandi in district Rajouri.
Both the accused are drivers by profession and were travelling in another Tata Sumo vehicle from Shopian in Kashmir to Rajouri. The police had pre-information about the smuggling of drugs from Kashmir side to Rajouri.
Thannamandi police party led by SDPO, Iftikhar Talib laid a naka at Manyal Gali  and  intercepted Sumo No. JK03C/9922 and during search recovered 10 kgs of poppy straw packed in two bags of 5 kg each. Two persons who are drivers by profession were arrested in this connection. They were identified as Mohd Ashraf, son of Mohd Bashir, resident of Kandi and Showkat Ali, son of Mohd Munshi, resident of Dhar Sakri in Kotranka. The police seized the vehicle and also arrested its driver, Imtiaz Dar of Kashmir. It registered a case against them.
The Sumo driver told police that these two drivers hailing from Rajouri were carrying bags and boarded the  vehicle at Shopian. They kept their bags on the roof top of the vehicle before sitting. He said that he was not aware what they were carrying in their bags as they were travelling as normal passengers. The police placed both the smugglers under sustained interrogation to know about the sources and the destination.
