2 soldiers martyred, 5 injured in Pak firing along LoC

At least two soldiers were today martyred besides five others including two cops and three civilians were injured after the Pakistani army resorted to heavy mortar shelling on Indian positions along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district.
The Pak army violated ceasefire at wee hours using automatic and light weapons fire in the Krishna Ghati (KG) and Balnoi sectors of Mendhar targeting forward posts and residential areas which was given befitting reply by the army. Later the Pak army resorted to indiscriminate mortar shelling in which a soldier namely Gur Sevak Singh age 23 years of 22 Sikh regiment resident of Taran Taran, Amritsar suffered gunshot wound and succumbed to his injuries while being evacuated.
According to the PRO Defence Jammu, Sepoy Gur Sevak was martyred while foiling an infiltration bid along the LoC in KG sector last night.
“The Army foiled two infiltration bids on the intervening night of 5 and 6 November 2016 along LoC in KG Sector. The alert and vigilant troops observed suspicious movement and challenged the infiltrators. The infiltrators opened fire while trying to sneak back towards POK side of LoC. In the ensuring firefight with infiltrators Sepoy Gur Sevak got injured and later succumbed” said Lt Col Manish Mehta PRO Defence Jammu. The second martyr has been identified as Commissioned Officer, Naik Tupare Rajendra Narayan. He is survived by his wife, Sharmila. The brave heart soldier hailed from Karve village, district Kolhapur of Maharashtra, the PRO said.
The shelling later swelled to the Saujian sector also at about 11am and continued till 4pm in the entire Poonch district in which two cops and a woman also sustained splinter injuires.
The injured woman was identified as Saleema Akhtar (28), a resident of Poonch. Akhtar was admitted to the local hospital in Poonch where her condition was stated to be stable, a police officer said. The two injured include a BSF Sub-Inspector namely Nitin Kumar and a lady Special Police Officer (SPO) who were also undergoing treatment till the last reports poured in. This was the 101st incident of ceasefire violation by Pakistan, following India’s surgical strike across the Line of Control (LoC) on September 29th, targeting Pakistan occupied Kashmir-based terrorist launch pads.
