21 dead, 40 injured as bus falls into deep gorge in Reasi

At least 21 people including were today killed while 40 others got critically injured when the vehicle in which they were travelling skidded off the road and rolled down into a deep gorge in Joytipuram area of district Reasi.
Reports said that the ill-fated bus bearing registration number JK02S-0295 was on its way towards Reasi from Bakal, on reaching near Gurudwara Sahib just before the SBI branch at Jyotipuram the driver reportedly lost his control and the vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge.
The bus landed into the gorge with a big bang resulting into the on spot death of 15 persons while injuries to 40 others.
After the incident locals of the area raised an alarm and informed the police who rushed to the spot and launched the rescue operation with the help of locals and shifted the injured to the District Hospital Reasi where doctors declared 15 people as brought dead while six others succumbed to their wounds taking toll to 21 while rest 40 were admitted for the treatment.
Considering the critical condition of 14 injured both the hospital and district administration decided to airlift them to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H), Jammu for the advance treatment for which Army helicopter Mi-17 1V was pressed into service. Later 21 other injured were also shifted to GMC&H via road.
At GMC&H all the injured were undergoing advance treatment and their condition was still critical till the filling of this news report.
SSP Reasi, Tahir Sajjad Bhatt said “In this tragic road mishap 21 people including 12 females and 9 males have lost their lives while 40 others have received critical injuries and among them 14 most critical patients were airlifted to GMC&H, Jammu for the advance treatment”.
He further said that the district administration is also working on its part for better treatment and other assistance adding that the reason of mishap would be ascertained after the inquiry.
There were also unconfirmed reports of 24 deaths by the sources who also said that the mishap took place when the gear of the bus slipped and the bus started moving in backward direction and fell down into a deep gorge.
A case in this regard has been registered by the police under FIR number 153/2016 under section 304-A RPC at police station Reasi for future course of action.
Those who lost their lives in the mishap included Jameet Singh (46) son of Prem Singh resident of Sarote Kote, Rohit Kumar (18) son of Charan Dass resident of Vijaypur, Sonakhshi Sharma (2) daughter of Vijay Kumar resident of Bakkal, Raj Kumari (39) wife of Kashmir Singh resident of Surjan Dhar, Shakumtla Devi (45) wife of Paras Ram resident of Bakkal, Vaishno Devi (50) wife of Bodh Raj resident of Semagha, Neera Devi (35) wife of Santhokh Singh resident of Sarsundwan, Mast Ram (40) son of Basantu resident of Sarsundwan Prem Lata (36) wife of Bishen Singh resident of Sersundhwan, Neelam Devi (40) wife of Des Raj resident of Sersundhwan, Satya Devi (36) wife of Angrej Singh resident of Sersundhwan, Kaku Ram (63) son of Bakku resident of Sari, Khem Raj (23) son of Madan Lal resident of Sersundhwan, Sumitra Devi (57) wife of Ram Nath resident of Kotli, Shushma Devi (40) wife of Madan Lal resident of Sersundhwan, Prem Nath (60) son of Sheru resident of Sermagha, Atma Ram (56) son of Gopi Chand resident of Sersundhwan, Rumal Singh (47) son of Amru resident of Smakh Surjan Dhar, Shiv Singh (50) son of Amru resident of Smakh, Surjandhar, Reeta Devi (25) wife of Satpal resident of kothri Tote and Taro Devi (40) wife of Kaku Ram resident of Surjandhar.
