3 BSF jawans, militant killed in encounter

Three Border Security Force (BSF) jawans and a militant were killed in an ongoing encounter near Line of Control (LoC) in Macchil sector in the frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara. “Militants attacked a BSF post in the woods in Macchil sector in Kupwara. The security forces retaliated ensuing in an encounter,” a BSF spokesperson said.
In the exchange of fire two BSF jawans, Head Constable Chander Pal Singh and Constable Babn Shaan, and a militant were killed, he said.
Meanwhile, official sources said five BSF jawans were also injured in the exchange of fire, adding one of them later succumbed at a hospital. Additional security forces were rushed to cordon off the area to foil any attempts by the militants to escape, they said, adding the operation was still going on when the reports last came in.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh has condoled the demise of soldiers who laid down their lives while fighting the militants in Machhil sector on Monday.
In a message, Dr. Singh has expressed solidarity with the bereaved families and prayed for peace to the departed souls.
