At least four persons including three minor students today died and 52 got injured when the vehicle which they were travelling in skidded off the road and rolled down into a ‘nullah’ near Barmeen area of district Udhampur.
According to the reports the ill-fated minibus bearing registration number JK14C 0741 was on its way from Udhampur to Barmeen. By reaching at Plater, driver lost his control over the steering and the vehicle fell into a deep ‘nallah’ resulting into the on spot death of a student identified as Sushil (16) son of Ashok Singh resident of Barmeen (student) and serious injuries to 55 others.
After the incident locals of the area raised an alarm besides informed the police who rushed to the spot and launched the rescue operation.
Both police and locals evacuated the injured from the vehicle and shifted them to the District Hospital Udhampur where doctors declared three more as brought dead who were identified as Preeti Devi (17) daughter of Kansar Singh resident of Sulgar, Anil Sharma (15) son of Raj Kumar resident of Amba Lehar (both student) and Bishna Devi (45) wife of Badri Chand resident of Sangoor.
Reports said that the minibus was over crowded and was ferrying mostly teachers and the lecturers who were going to attend their routine classes, but drive failed to negotiate a curve and lost control which resulted into this tragic road mishap.
Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Neeraj Kumar when asked confirmed the death of four people including minors and injuries to more than 50 others in the said road mishap.
The driver of the minibus also sustained grievous injuries in the accident and is also undergoing treatment at District Hospital Udhampur along with the other 54 injured.
A case in this regard has been registered by the police at police station Ramnagar under FIR number 116/2016 under section 279,337 and 304 for future course of action and to ascertain the actual reason behind the mishap.
