In a tragic incident, three school children today washed away in flash floods, triggered by reportedly cloud burst in Chakwa nullah near Batote area of district Ramban.
“The students were washed away in the Chakwa Nullah, which witnessed sudden floods caused by cloudburst amid heavy rains” reports said. “As soon as the three children reached halfway, the water level in the normally calm stream increased suddenly following a cloud burst upstream, and they were washed away in the strong current of water” sources said.
The body of two children was recovered immediately after the incident, while one is still missing, they added. Police officials said that three children died after floods hit Chakwa nullah two kilometers from Batote area of the district.
The deceased identified as Rakesh Kumar 14 son of Satish Kumar resident of Ladhwal, Shiwali Devi 5 daughter of Hans resident of Bagu Nallah and Payal Devi 14 daughter of Raj Kumar residents of Thopal area of Batote district Ramban.
Team of police party along with SDRF, Army, CRPF and civilians launched rescue operation and recovered the bodies of Rakesh and Shivali whereas the body of Payal Devi was untraced at the time of filing of this report. After the heavy rainfall the Jammu and Kashmir National Highway was also blocked owing landslides.
Director Metrology, Sonam Lotus when contacted regarding any possibility of rainfall in Jammu, said that there are no chances of rainfall in Jammu. He added that the people residing in hilly regions should remain alert. Meanwhile, CEO Ramban has reportedly placed seven teachers posted in Government Middle School Ladwal under suspension with immediate effect for allowing students to go home despite adverse climate.
