4 killed, 1 injured in windstorm, cloudburst in Kashmir

As many as four people were killed and one was injured in Kashmir after heavy winds and cloud burst hit various parts of the Valley on Monday.

The hour-long gusty winds this afternoon created havoc in Kashmir parts. The rooftops of dozens of houses were damaged while trees at many places were uprooted.

As per the reports, the two vehicles also suffered damage after a tree fell on them in the Pattan area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

According to officials, a mother, and her two sons were killed after a cloudburst hit a brick kiln ‘Star-BDB-255’ at Chandapora Budgam.

The slain trio has been identified as Bure Begum (45), wife of Saleem Mansoor, Qaisar Mansoor (20), and Muhammad Rayees Mansoor (21), sons of Saleem Mansoor all residents of Utter Pardesh.

The massive windstorm was reported from various districts of Kashmir including Srinagar, Anantnag, Ganderbal, Sopore, Baramulla Pattan and several other places.

A 34- year -old woman died in the Botengo area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district after she came under tin sheets which blew away from a rooftop during gusty winds.

The official identified the deceased as Meenu Jan, wife of Khursheed Ahmad and said the deceased came under the sheet during a heavy windstorm near Habkhatoon petrol pump Batangoo and suffered serious injuries.

She was shifted to GMC Anantnag where she succumbed to her wounds.

In another incident in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, a woman suffered injuries after strong winds damaged the rooftop of the guardroom of Ziyazat Shah Sadiq Qalandar. The injured woman has been identified as Shakeela Bano, wife of Firdous Ahmad Mir of Lar Ganderbal, she had been shifted to hospital for treatment where her condition is said to be stable.

Reports also said that the heavy winds have damaged orchards in Kashmir parts and movement on several interior roads was halted for hours after trees fell on the road.

The gusty winds have also damaged transmission lines in Kashmir parts, and the power supply was affected in many areas of the valley.

Severe winds also damaged the roof of a house in Bandipora’s Watapora area and the video of the same is doing rounds on social media. Roofs were blown off and trees were uprooted in various Kashmir parts, including Anantnag, Baramulla, Ganderbal, Sangrama, and Sopore, and neighbourhoods due to strong winds.

Furthermore, a tree fell on two vehicles in the Pattan region of Baramulla, damaging them (JK04E 5070 Swift and JK014 7635 Alto).
