A major earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale today hit areas around the Indo-Myanmar border and its tremors were felt in the northeast, West Bengal, Bihar and other parts of the country.
According to National Centre of Seismology (NCS), the earthquake occurred at 7:25 PM at the depth of 134 km.There were no immediate reports of damage to property and life.
Strong tremors were felt in Kolkata and the city’s metro service has been shut down.

Kolkata: An earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter Scale hit Myanmar on Wednesday evening. As per reports the epicenter of the earthquake is known to be the Myanmar-India border.
Tremors were also felt in Kolkata, the Seven Sisters in the North East, as well as in Delhi, NCR. So far the East and North East parts of India have felt the major tremors.
People were seen running out of their homes and offices. Shopping areas also had customers and businessmen rushing out of their establishments.
Reports also mention some areas of Bangladesh feeling the jolt.
