JKP suffers 4-1 defeat as semis position cleared

Hosts Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) today suffered a 1-4 defeat in the hands of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in quarterfinals of the ongoing 65th All India Police Hockey Championship at K K Hakhu Stadium, here.
However, defending champion, Indian Tibet Border Police (ITBP), Punjab Police and Border Security Force have qualified for the last four stages of the competition. Now, in the semifinals, scheduled for tomorrow, ITBP shall take on CRPF at 11.30 am, followed by the other semifinal at 2 pm between BSF and Punjab Police.
In the knockout stages of quarterfinals, J&K Police could not stop a better opponent in CRPF from making it a big 4-1 win. Playing with a side having mostly the `ineligible’ SPO (Special Police Offices) and veterans, J&K Police netted the only face saving goal in the last 67th minute through Jaspreet Singh. Leading by 2-0 in the first half of the play, CRPF successfully improved the tally after the breather. From CRPF, Bikas Kujur played superb game and sounded the board twice in the 25th and 48th minute while Jayant Tirkey and Ravender Kujur added a goal each striking in the 17th and 56th minute.
In the meantime, BSF blanked Karnataka 5-0. Hatinder Singh (40th, 45th), Gurjit Singh (16th), Mandeep Singh (17th) and Lakhvir Singh (67th) were the scorers.
The ITBP made it a 4-2 win against fighting Odisha Police. MC Meetai (14th), Harwinder Singh (27th, 44th) and Jaswinder Singh (60th) were the scorers. From Odisha, Sudhir Barta (29th) and Umesh Kishan (38th) netted the goals.
In the fourth quarterfinal of the day, Punjab Police trounced Tamil Nadu 6-0. Satwinder Singh (4th), Gurbaj Singh (22nd), Amit Sandhu (27th), Ajay Kumar (29th), Jagmeet Singh (54th and 70th) were the scorers.
The FIXTURE: Semifinals: ITBP to take on CRPF at 11.30 am; BSF shall meet Punjab Police at 2 pm at K K Hakhu Stadium tomorrow.
