8-Day Long Kashmir Folk Theatre Festival opens at Tagore Hall

J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages Tuesday launched a colourful package of cultural events to celebrate and showcase the rich and centuries old Kashmiri folk theatre and music. Prominent folk artistes of Kashmir will perform distinguished specimen of local folk dance and music including Bhand Paether, Dhamali and Chhakri for which the Valley is widely known. The 8-Day long cultural festival, inaugurated at Tagore Hall here today, will showcase rich Kashmiri cultural heritage. The inaugural programme was launched by noted artiste Mohammed Khalil Bhat. Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages, Dr. Aziz Hajini, former Sectetary JKAACL, MY Taing, Farooq Nazki, GN Khayal, Prof. Farooq Fayaz, Shabir Mujahid, Ayaz Rasool Nazki, Mohammed Amin Bhat, and Nissar Naseem were among those who were present on the occasion. In his inaugural speech, Secretary Academy, Dr. Aziz Hajini highlighted the need for holding events like these to promote rich cultural heritage of the State. He said that J&K has a glorious tradition which needs to be showcased in adequate manner. Promising year-long folk based events Hajini said that this year JKAACL has plans to hold street plays at various places across the State and hoped that this would go a long way in promoting cultural consciousness among people. The highlight of today’s programme was scintillating performances by artistes of National Bhand Theatre, Wathura, Alamdar Bhagat Theatre, Anantnag, and Karam Buland Theatre.
