8 killed in crash at toll gate in Telangana’s Suthariguda

Eight people including four engineering students, were killed and another critically injured when a van slammed into their car, crushing it against a stationary truck at a toll gate on the Nehru Outer Ring Road in Ranga Reddy district of Telangana early Wednesday.
The victims, all belonging to one family, were travelling from Sadashivapet in Medak district, about 75 kms from Hyderabad, to attend a marriage at Kompally on the outskirts of the city.
The incident happened at Suthariguda toll gate of Medchal block at around 12.30 am. Medchal police inspector S Rajasekhara Reddy said the youth stopped at the Suthariguda toll gate on the Outer Ring Road at around midnight to pay the tax. They were waiting for a heavy truck in front of them to move, when a speeding van rammed into their SUV from behind.
“Such was the impact of the collision that their vehicle was completely crushed between the van and the heavy truck ahead of it,” Reddy said.

including the driver were killed on the spot and the horrific crash mutilated their bodies.
One student survived with critical injuries and was shifted to a private hospital in Medchal. Seven of the dead have been identified as Akheel, 19, Imroz, 25, Sakhavath, 30, Irfan, 18, Feroz, 22, Nishad, 24, Akbar, 28. The driver was yet to be identified.
The police said the accident could have occurred as there were no speed breakers at the toll gate and the driver of the van, who is absconding, might have been drunk.
