8th phase of DDC elections in J&K, polling ends successfully ; Details Inside

Voting for the 8th and last phase of District Development Council (DDC) elections started in Jammu and Kashmir UT. The polling started at 7 in the morning and went up till 2 in the afternoon. Like the previous 7 phases, people came with enthusiasm to vote for the candidates.

The voting for Panchayat elections were held in 28 constituencies. Against the 13 DDC constituencies of Kashmir division went for polls, there were 83 candidates in fray, including 31 women. In Jammu division, there were 85 candidates in fray for the 15 DDC constituencies in this phase, including 15 women.

The official said “Over 6.30 lakh electors, including 3,03,275 female voters are going to elect their representatives in the 28 DDC constituencies.”

“There are 1,703 polling stations — 1,028 in Kashmir division and 675 in Jammu division, they added.

Despite tight security arrangements, a melee incident took place in Darhal area of District Rajouri. This is second such incident that happened among the voters in the polling booth.

Election Commissioner K.K Sharma said “It is a feeling of satisfaction to see the enthusiasm in voters in all the phases of DDC elections. Last 7 phases have experienced 40% polling and more than 1 lakh people came out to vote. Today, I have come randomly to visit different polling booths to check whether the safety measures for Covid-19 are being followed or not.”

There’s a difference between the lists of panchayat elections and assembly elections. People usually get confused and think of same serial numbers. However, they are different in both the lists. Some voters who were eligible have done their registration and voted. In the coming months, we’ll will sort all the problems. If any mishap takes place or the voting is not correctly, we call for re-polling like we did in one of the previous phases. Commission has the full authority of re-polling.” He added.
