A date from hell: Texas man sues woman for ‘constantly texting

New York, May 19
A first date is always a gamble. The person you are seeing might be nice and sweet, or rude and obnoxious. That’s a risk everyone always takes. However, this Texas man has decided to tackle his date’s rude behaviour – he has sued her for “constantly texting” during the movie they were watching together. Brandon Vezmar of Austin, Texas, has sued his date for $17.31 – the cost of a movie ticket, claiming that her texting ruined his cinema-going experience during their date on May 6 and was a “threat to civilised society”. He said she started texting soon after movie began, and when he asked her to step outside if she wished to continue to be on her phone, the woman did not return.
The lawsuit he filed says her texting was a “direct violation” of the cinema hall’s policy and that she affected the “viewing experience” of the patrons present.
“It was kind of a first date from hell,” Vezmar was quoted as saying by the Austin American-Statesman.
The woman has refused to pay the damages sought by Vezmar because “he took me out on a date”, the newspaper reported. She said she texted “only two or three times” with a friend over a fight with her boyfriend, adding that she wasn’t “bothering
anybody”.
Meanwhile, the cinema hall’s chief executive Tim League has offered to compensate Vezmar with the amount sought in a gift certificate if he agrees to drop the lawsuit, the BBC
reported.
