Srinagar, December 22
Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) chairperson Syeda Aasiya Andrabi, who was arrested on October 4 and lodged in a Sub-Jail in north Kashmir, has been released.
A spokesperson of DeM here today said Andrabi was released yesterday after remaining under detention in Sub-Jail in Baramulla for over 75 days. She said Andrabi’s Public Safety Act (PSA) was quashed by a local court last week. However, she alleged that the DeM chief was not released and instead sent for judicial remand in another case. But, yesterday she was brought to Deputy Commissioner’s office Srinagar, where she was released. Andrabi was arrested by Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kral Khud in the summer capital, Srinagar on October 4. She was evading arrest ever since the on-going unrest started after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani and two other militants in an encounter with security forces on July 8 in Anantnag. She is the wife of separatist leader Qasim Faktoo, who faces a life term in Srinagar central Jail.
