Admn asks resident to stop house construction

Residents in Pampore are opposing construction of a house by a person on ‘graveyard’, and demanded from the authorities not to allow the encroacher to build his house “on the dead”.
Locals in Khanqah Bagh, Pampore, said that the land is used by them for graveyard from many decades and the encroacher has constructed one-storey of his house on it illegally. “Now, he has started constructing first floor of the house, which we have opposed to. He has no permission from the authorities concerned,” Gulzar Ahmad, a resident said.Executive Officer Municipal Committee Pampore, Imtiyaz Ahmad, said that notice has been served to the encroacher to demolish the house within 48 hours.”Besides notice, we have initiated legal action against him for encroaching upon the graveyard that is on Kachcharie land” Ahmad said. “We have asked the encroacher to stop the construction. We have sought details from Revenue department also.” However, Sajad Ahmad Bhat, son of the house owner, said that they have constructed the house on the Kachcharie land 15 years ago.
“We have constructed the ground floor of our house15 years ago with the verbal permission of the locals and Town committee officials. About 60 other houses are also located on the Kachcahrie land, besides ours in the area.” Bhat said.
“Few persons complained to the officials about our construction. The officials asked us to stop raising the first storey and we have stopped it,” he said. Tehsildar Pampore Muhammad Maqbool said that as per spot investigation and revenue records the encroacher is constructing house on Kachcharie land that the locals are using as graveyard.
