Admn to start centres for training border youth

Jammu district administration is contemplating to start a project to train the border youth between the age group of 16-21 years for recruitment into the Army, Paramilitary and J&K Police.
The project, which is in advance stage of execution, is aimed at setting up of six training centres, one in each Border Sub Divisions of Arnia, RS Pura, Mandal, Marh, Akhnoor and Khour. Each centre would be named C- BYTE (Centre for Border Youth Training and Empowerment).
These centres would essentially include one huge ground for improving the physical endurance of the candidates and one academic centre for academic skills. Retired Army men will be assigned the task of physical training. The Army has volunteered to provide its grounds where ever required.
Some physical training structures would be constructed in these grounds for providing actual feel of the recruitment. Each centre will train 70 youth who are willing to get entry into Armed forces as a soldier. The boys will be made to undergo a training programme of 90 days where stress will be laid at improving their capabilities to pass physical and written tests. The interested youth will be made to sign an indemnity bond.
The Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Simrandeep Singh, who has been working on this project along with a few public spirited people, said that the project has been realized keeping the burning desire in the border youth to get entry into Army. However, there is no formal training for such youth, many of whom ultimately get rejected or fall into the trap of touts.
The Jammu administration sought necessary inputs from officials of Punjab Government, who are already running such a project in 22 districts for the last few decades. The boys will be admitted in the camp only if they are medically fit as per the basic medical criteria.
It is also hoped that such a project will engage the youth in a productive exercise of nation building and would keep them away from evils like drug menace etc.
