After anonymous ‘threat letter’ Jammu on high alert

A High alert was today sounded in Jammu after a letter ‘threatening’ serial bomb blasts at various locations across Jammu on 15 August, Independence Day was received by the office of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu and a daily Hindi news paper.
The letters is written by hand on a plain paper without any letter head of any organization or outfit and one received by the daily Hindi news paper is the carbon copy of the
original received by the SSP Jammu Sunil Gupta.
Although the letter had reached the office of SSP Jammu on Saturday evening but was today opened by the SSP after which the police swung into action and it came to light that a carbon copy of the same letter has also been sent to a Hindi daily newspaper.
According to the reports the letter mentions names of targeted places, schools and other establishments in a drawn map including Bus Stand, Railway Station, Gol Market, KC, Bikram Chowk, Jammu University, Raghunath Temple, Civil Secretariat, Ranbir Higher Secondary School, DPS School among other spots.
Reports further said that the letter titled ‘ISIS 15 August’ has been signed by one Masood who has threatened to attack 50,000 residents of Jammu city.
Taking cognizance police immediately lodged a case against the unknown person under FIR number 187/16 under section 153-B (1) 505- 1 (B) at police station Gandhi Nagar and increased the checking throughout the district. Besides this search operations are also being carried out at different locations and all the nakas have been made alert. A public appeal has been also issued to inform/report any suspicious activity and materia l found.SSP Jammu Sunil Gupta when asked said that the letter received by him seems to be written by a child from his hand writing and could be a escapade of mischievous elements but it is being taken seriously and an investigation has been started in this regard after lodging of FIR as people security is their concern. Sources within the department said that a team would be sent to the post office that the letter was originally sent from besides information is also being collected from various schools and other pinch points of the districts.
