‘Akira:’ Top reasons why this Sonakshi Sinha starrer should be on your movies-to-watch list

Sonakshi Sinha’s “Akira” is all set to open in theatres on Sept. 2 and even though the buzz is fairly low, there are a few reasons why it should be on your things-to-do-this-weekend list.
Sonakshi Sinha’s action avatar in “Akira” is something we haven’t seen previously. She was always offered roles that required her to play the dainty damsel who is constant need of saving. But, for this one, she has transformed into a lethal man-beating machine.
“Honestly, Sonakshi has done a very good job for this part. She learnt martial arts for six months, lost weight, cut her long hair, did everything that was needed to bring Akira alive,” “Akira” director A. R. Murugadoss was quoted as saying by the Quint.
Woman in the lead
Another plus is, “Akira” is an action-thriller, which is also a female-centric film since Anushka Sharma’s “NH10.” Lately, there has been a dearth of films with a female protagonist.
Director knows his craft
Director Murugadoss, who has successful films like “Ghajini” and “Holiday” to his credit, knows his action well, but also carefully cases them with engaging stories. So, his projects are never an unending stretch of mindless fights.
Story is the hero
“Akira” is a remake of Tamil thriller film “Mouna Guru” (2011) and a little research on the web will tell you that it is about a boy who has anger management issues and often finds himself in trouble for being unable to adjust in his surroundings.
