Allahabad bags national award for disabled friendly schemes

Allahabad, December 6
The Sangam city has achieved a new milestone when it received a national award for bagging the top slot in the country in providing welfare schemes to disabled.
District Magistrate Sanjay Kumar received the award from President Pranab Mukherjee at a ceremony organised by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment on the occasion of ‘International Day of Persons with Disabilities’ at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi recently.
Mr Kumar said here today that he had issued a disability certificate to 1.13 lakh persons, which accounts to 63.6 per cent of the total population of people with disabilities.
On directions of the DM, as many as 540 people suffering from leprosy have been identified and been given pension. Apart from it, 1,944 people have been rehabilitated.
The DM said to facilitate the disabled, ramp has been constructed at all government schools of the district. The loan and employment schemes for rehabilitation of persons with disabilities are being executed effectively.
He said single window system has also been made available to help the disabled persons avail various schemes. Camps are also being organised for correction surgeries, distribution of artificial limbs and supporting equipment to the persons with disabilities.
