As the minimum temperature has dropped to sub-zero levels in Kashmir, the government hospitals in the Valley are yet to start the central heating systems thereby putting the lives of the patients at risk.
Sources said that the heating system in the Government Hospital for Chest Diseases Srinagar, Chest-Disease and other associated hospitals are yet to be started, which resulted in the sufferings to the patients.
“We are shivering here during the night and the hospital administration has not turned on the heating system,” said a patient undergoing treatment at the ward no 5 of Government Hospital for Chest Diseases Srinagar.
“The patients admitted in the hospital must need heating arrangements but unfortunately the hospital authorities are paying heed over the things and are putting the lives of patients at risk,” he said
Sources said that patients make their own heating arrangements by spending huge bucks on blankets to beat the bone-chilling cold.
Officials said the cold had not only affected the patients, but also the work of the hospital staff heating systems and rely on traditional heaters which do more harm than good to patients.
The attendants of the patients later appealed hospital authorities to look into the matter and redress their genuine grievances at earliest.
