While as the Handwara administration today razed down decades old Army bunkers from the town, all eyebrows are raised over the timing of the action, which preceded killing of five civilians besides alleged molestation attempt.
According to observers, the abrupt decision of the district administration of removing three Army bunkers from Handwara triggers suspicion over the episode of killing of civilians, which followed the alleged molestation of a girl.
“When the girl confirmed that there was no molestation attempt on her by any soldier, and the same was officially released by the Army, what led to dismantling of Army Bunkers,” said an observer, wishing anonymity, adding that this sudden razing down of bunkers only indicate that the things were pre planned and were equally supported by administration and local MLA.
He further said that Army was forced to remove three bunkers after Handwara clashes triggered due to alleged molestation charges.
“Why J&K govt is yielding to the extremists demand? The stand of army is nowhere stated,” He questioned and stated when the girl admitted that army had no role in her molestation, why bunkers had been removed. This is all pre planned to demean the forces.
Meanwhile, municipal authorities in violence-hit Handwara town in north Kashmir today removed three security force bunkers from the main market, fulfilling one of the long pending demands of local residents.
“Three bunkers, which were constructed on top of shops in Handwara main market, have been removed by municipal authorities,” a police official said. He said the main bunker, located in the round-about of main market, has also been vacated and taken over by municipal authorities.
“This bunker will also be demolished and the task will be completed by 2 PM today,” the official said. The municipal authorities also erected a board on the premises of the bunker, marking the place for conversion into a public park. However, the site of bunker was named as Shaheed Nayeem Chowk, wherein Public Park is envisaged.
Chairperson of Peoples’ Conference, Sajad Gani Lone accompanied with Deputy commissioner Kupwara Ranjan reached the spot. He appreciated the removal of bunkers.
