Army and Police orgainses Week long Traffic Awareness Programme

To continue its efforts for the welfare of people Army organized a week long Traffic Awareness Programme which commenced here today.    Doda district is plagued by frequent traffic accidents which leads to loss of precious lives. Most of these accidents are caused due to poor traffic awareness and limited knowledge of traffic rules.    In order to educate general public about traffic regulations, Sohanda Rashtriya Rifles under the aegis of the Headquarters Suigargh Sector Rashtriya Rifles, Counter Insurgency Force(Delta) alongwith J&K police started a weeklong ‘Traffic Awareness Programme’ at different parts of Distt Doda.    The focus of this awareness drive  will be two fold, by targeting the two wheeler and  four wheeler drivers in specific as well as public (pedestrians, cyclists etc) in general.

It is planned that teams of the battalion comprising experienced drivers in partnership with police as well as representative of public (NGO’s) hold awareness classes and lectures for drivers elaborating upon basic traffic signs and road safety aspects.   The classes were organised across the district at different locations where maximum vehicles, drivers and members of general public are available including Taxi stands, important cross roads , road junction other busy places.    Pamphlets highlighting ‘Do’s and Dont’s’ of traffic rules for motor cyclists, four wheeler/ two wheeler drivers, pedestrians and school children were also distributed to carry the message to home.   “India has the worst motor vehicle collision rate in the world and a district like Doda contributes significantly to this unwelcome statistic,” said CO 26 RR Colnel Shishar Bhardwaj adding by undertaking such informative campaigns, it is earnest belief that we would be able to save precious lives.
