Army Chief meets Vohra, AFSPA discussed

Chief of the Army staff General Dalbir Singh Suhag called on Governor N.N Vohra at the Jammu and Kashmir house in New Delhi today.

Sources said that the two discussed various important issues related to the internal as well as external security management of Jammu and Kashmir. They added that General Suhag briefed the government about the terror attack that took place in Kud area of Udhampur district in the afternoon.

General Suhag apprised the governor about preparedness of army to meet any eventuality during the upcoming Amarnath yatra. Sources further said that General Suhag assured the government that all plans of terrorist to disrupt Amarnath yatra would be countered and for that an effective strategy is always in place.

He further said that Governor N.N Vohra asked General Suhag about the possibility of revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA). He sought his views and asked him about need of showing humane face of army to the people in Kashmir valley. He also asked General Suhag to ensure that no civilian loses his life during the encounters with terrorist. The meeting lasted for 45 minutes.
