In order to immediately restore order across the Kashmir valley and to further control the law and order situation in the wake of violent street protests in twin districts of Kupwara and Handwara the Chief of Army Staff, General Dalbir Singh Sunday visited Northern Command headquarters to take stock of the prevailing situation.
General was received by Lt Gen DS Hooda, who later briefed him on the overall security situation in the Command theatre. Army Chief also interacted with the Corps Commanders and took a firsthand assessment of the prevailing internal security situation specifically in view of the recent incidents at Handwara and Nutnusa.
According to official sources, the Army Chief was also briefed by the senior army officers over efforts made by the local commanders to restore order on ground zero while exercising maximum restraint on stone pelters even as they targeted army camps.
The army chief also discussed steps taken to effectively deal with the counter infiltration grid in the state ahead of the peak summer season. The Army chief also directed the officers to complete the time bound inquiries in the recent cases of firing on the street protesters which resulted in the killing of five civilians in the state.
