Army conducts Inter-Tehsil Football Tournament at Mendhar

Haveli Tehsil team won the trophy of Poonch District Inter-Tehsil Football Tournament which was concluded at Op Hill Stadium, Mendhar here.
The tournament was held on October 26 and 27, October 2016 in which Surankote, Mandi, Mendhar and Haveli Tehsils fielded their teams consisting of amateur young players from remote areas, who were otherwise not getting adequate opportunities to showcase their skills.
The tournament was organised with an aim to select Poonch District Team which will participate in the Inter District Football Tournament to be conducted at Mendhar next month. This sporting event will revive and propagate the culture of sports in the State, foster a spirit of sportsmanship and lead to improvement in the overall health of the youth. The teams played each other on knock out basis and Mendhar tehsil team and Haveli tehsil team qualified for the finals. Haveli tehsil team won the championship by defeating Mendhar tehsil team with a score of 11-0 in a strongly contested final match. This event was also witnessed by SDM, Mendhar, SDPO, Mendhar, Principal, Govt Boys Higher Secondary School, Mendhar and young students.
Meanwhile, Young judo players of BSF Primary School were involved in World Judo Day celebrations by the institution. The October 28 is observed as Judo Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of founder of the game of Judo, Prof Jigaro.
Besides Primary Wing, young judokas from Ankur Wing also took part in the celebrations amidst spread of the knowledge about the game.
Headmaster of the Primary school, Gayatri Kotwal also spoke to the young judo players and appreciated the initiative taken by NIS Judo coach, Rameshwar Singh Jamwal.
