Jammu Tawi, November 26
Army organised a Kissan Mela at Government Higher Secondary School, Bafliaz in Poonch district, today. The event was attended by approximately 700 farmers from remote areas like Murrah, Kulali-Hill Kaka and Dogrian. The event comprised of series of informative lectures and display stalls which provided wide ranging information on Agriculture Techniques and Fruit Production. In addition they were also educated on Bee Farming, Sheep, Animal Husbandry, Sericulture and Fisheries which could additionally taken up by them to supplement their income. The information domain was further enhanced by the officials of J&K Gramin Bank and SBI Bank who gave information on economics of Agriculture to farmers and apprised them about various financial assistance schemes available to farmers.
The event has garnered an overwhelming response from farmers especially from remote localities of Hill Kaka, Adang, Sangliani and Poshana who could gain lot of single point information under single roof.
The event also provided an opportunity to the Army to reach out to the locals. The event concluded after distribution of saplings, seed packets and provision of medicines to needy and ill. Veterinary medicines were also distributed during the event.
The locals were appreciative of the Kissan Mela and showed keen interest in learning the nuances of new agriculture techniques and varieties of various genetically modified seeds for betterment of their agro production. Locals also enjoyed the cultural programme organised as part of event and on completion of event prominent persons and locals of the area of responsibility expressed gratitude to the Army for organising the first ever Kissan Mela in the Bafliaz block.
