With the change in infiltration and assailing techniques by the terrorist outfits to scuttle the peace and harmony of sensitive Jammu and Kashmir State, the Army at its esteemed institution ‘Corps Battle School’, situated at Sarol Rajouri has initiated a special training course, being imparted to the cops for their better and befitting role in the new environment.

Considering the recent extended terror intrusion and infiltration bids in which terrorists had been seen familiar of some new attacking and infiltration techniques, a need was felt to impart special skills to the cops for easy and swift anti militant operations. And to enhance their skills, Army finally decided to start special training of cops in which special guest lectures, demonstration of Battle Craft / Field Craft and Battle Drills and other military subjects of the approved syllabus have been introduced.

Established in June 1970, this Corps Battle School since its inception has been training a large number of troops (30,000 approximately) to enhance the fighting skills of soldier as part of a small team in each type of operational role but since after the over night terror encounter in Arnia village of Jammu province in the year 2014 and continues attacks in Srinagar besides extended terror attack in Pathankot air base, the top officials of Army decided to make soldiers more skilled and finally they initiated the special training course in the institution.

Pertinent to mention here that Jammu and Kashmir is having 1012 kilometers of boundary with Pakistan in which 198 kilometer International Border (IB) is being guarded by Border Security Force while Army is guarding 814 kilometers of Line of Control (LOC) which starts from Akhnoor sector of Jammu upto Tangdar, Uri and Gurez sectors in Srinagar.

Along the LoC there are 600 Gaps in comparison to 114 on IB which are known as Traditional Infiltration Routs (TIR) oftenly used by terrorist for infiltration, thus army is having extra burdern over its shoulders and with the change in modus operandi and techniques by terrorists the army cops are also being trained with modern techniques to make them competent in fighting and neutralizing the terrorists.

This corps battle school situated at Sarol Rajouri is also endowed with Tactical Exercises, Case studies on operational related subjects of Corps Zone, Training movies, Innovative firing practices to incl Jungle Lane Shooting, Room Intervention drills etc, Lectures by Guest speakers on important related subjects.

Also one of the areas of impetus in the school is the training imparted in counter IED operations.  An exhaustive IED Model Room with numerous IEDs is utilised to educate the troops on the types of IEDs being employed by the adversary and the terrorists. The large inventory of counter IED equipment with the Indian Army is optimally utilised in such operations. Drills and procedures to neutralise an IED are diligently taught to the troops with the underlying aim of no collateral damage especially in conduct of such operations in vicinity of civil habitat.

Public Relation Officer Defense Jammu, Lt Col Manish Mehta said that the Corps Battle School, Sarol is well equipped with a variety of small arms firing ranges, lecture halls, and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) model room, IED range, training village and a battle obstacle course of 1.2 kms with twenty three obstacles for imparting effective indoor and outdoor training along with a multifaceted gymnasium.

He disclosed that there is also a well stocked library for recreational facilities for permanent staff and trainees undergoing Pre Induction Training. The endeavor of the staff at the Corps Battle School is to induce confidence in the men on arrival in the operational area & prior to being deployed in the area of responsibility.
