Army rescues police constable caught in snow near LoC

March 14: Army on Monday said it rescued a police constable caught in 4-5ft snow on Tangdhar-Chowkibal road in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

“On 13 Mar 2016, in late hours, the Army detachment at Nasta Chhun Pass rescued Mr Arshad Mir, Police Constable who was badly caught in 4-5 feet deep snow near Khooni Nala about 4 Kms from Nasta Chhun Pass,” said a spokesman.

He said that five locals of Tangdhar area had decided to move on foot from Chowkibal towards Tangdhar in the absence of transport due to accumulation of snow along the route.

“Only four of them could manage to reach Nasta Chhun Pass. On reaching they informed the Army detachment, that the fifth person namely Mr Arshad Mir could not make it as he was physically exhausted near Khooni Nala,” he said.

Despite heavy snowfall, snow blizzard, and zero visibility, he said that an avalanche rescue team at Nasta Chhun Pass moved into action immediately.

“The team on reaching the incident site found Mr Arshad Mir in critical state who had lost all hopes of survival. The team provided first aid and rescued Mr Arshid Mir by carrying him on their back turn by turn and brought him safely at Nasta Chhun Pass,” said the spokesman.

He added that Mir regained conciousness after couple of hours of treatment.
