Army soldier injured in Leh avalanche succumbs

March 25:An army soldier rescued from a snow avalanche has succumbed at a medical facility, army said on Friday.

Lance Havildar Bhawan Tamang, who was earlier rescued from an avalanche in Turtuk Sector of Leh that hit an army patrol today morning, has succumbed to his injuries, said a spokesman.

Tamang was immediately retrieved and evacuated to the nearest medical facility, but could not be revived by the medical team, he said.

He was a resident of Lopshu village in Darjeeling tehsil of West Bengal state.

Meanwhile, massive efforts are on to rescue the other soldier missing after the avalanche.
