Two women pedestrians were crushed to death by army vehicle in the frontier district of Kupwara, prompting locals to stage protests against army.
According to witnesses the accident took place when the army vehicle was on way to Chowkibal from Kupwara this morning when it hit the three women pedestrians near Panzgam village on the Kupwara-Chowkibal road.
The trio were removed by the locals to the nearby hospital where two were declared brought dead.
Victims have been identified as Naza Begum (36) w/o Khuzar Mohammad Bhat and 26-year-old Sayma Bano D/o Mohammad Afza. Both are the residents of Panzgam kralpora of Kupwara district.
Confirming the death of two women in the accident, a senior police, a local news gathering agency, “The accident claimed the lives of two women while a minor girl sustained serious injuries.”
Witnesses also said protests broke in the area with angry locals hurled rocks at the army vehicle.
Meanwhile, large contingent of police and Para-military troopers have rushed to the spot to contain the protesters.
