In a tragic incident the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Jammu, Mohammad Saleem (45) today sustained serious injuries when he was crushed by a learner driving candidate during his trial for a driving license at Narwal.
The profusely bleeding ARTO was immediately shifted to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu where after considering the seriousness of his injuries he was shifted to DMC Ludhiana for the super specialized treatment.
Reports said that the ARTO was conducting the driving trails of the various candidates at Narwal where one of the candidates in an attempt to clear the test, lost control of his vehicle Maruti Zen car and rammed into the ARTO inflicting severe multiple injuries to him.
Prima facie the incident seems to be an occupational hazard for the ARTO as he is the first official who got injured while performing his duty, but it has shown that the officials at ARTO are now performing their duties with the complete zeal and dedication.
Pertinent to mention here that in December 2015, Governor Jammu and Kashmir NN Vohra accompanied by First Lady Usha Vohra had personally visited the RTO office to renew their driving licenses.
The Governor had drove to the RTO office in the afternoon and completed formalities like getting himself photographed and fingerprinted as required for the new biometric licence.
During this visit Vohra had complimented the then RTO Ashwani Khajuria for efficiently managing his office, which is visited by nearly 3,000 persons every day. All this make apparent that in the RTO office Jammu the officials are working with dedication and there is complete transparency.
