Assam Royal Global University to start function from next session

Guwahati, December 23
With an aim to impart student-oriented and industry-oriented education in keeping with the needs of time, a new private university would start functioning from the next academic session of 2017-18 from Guwahati.
Announcing the academic launching of ‘The Assam Royal Global University’ (ARGU) here today, chancellor AK Pansari said, “Value-based education is the need of the hour. It is our endeavor to create a world-class institution here so that the exodus of students from North East to other parts due to lack of educational facilities here can be stopped.”
Established by the Assam Royal Global University Act, 2013, the new varsity will function from the existing campus of Royal Group of Institutions in the city, which is an initiative under Gyan Sagar Foundation, a non-for-profit organisation.
The new varsity will offer courses in Engineering and Technology, Business, Architecture, Fine Arts, Pure and Applied Sciences, Behavioral and Allied Sciences, Performing Arts, etc. with a student intake target of 1000 for its first academic session.
Prof (Dr) SP Singh, formerly senior VP of Amity Group and former VC of Amity University, Chattisgarh, who has taken over as the vice-chancellor of the new varsity, said the entire syllabus has been drafted to make it student oriented and industry oriented, so that the students are prepared to enter the professional work at the end of their courses and survive the modern
day working
He said the ARGU will have a choice-based or flexi credit system, as approved by the UGC, wherein a study can pursue a different subject, along with the major subject, as per his or her interest and earn credits for it.
Besides ARGU, Tezpur University is the only other varsity in North East that is offering the flexi credit system, he added.
Prof Singh further said MoUs would be signed with at least 20 foreign universities for tie-ups, including faculty exchange, and process has already been started for it.
