Avalanche Warnings Issued For Higher Reaches Of J&K

JAN 6: The J&K Disaster Management Authority(DMA) on Tuesday issued medium and low-level avalanche warnings for the higher reaches of the avalanche-prone areas in the UT.

As per the sources, a medium-level avalanche warning has been issued for higher reaches of Poonch, Rajouri, Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar in Jammu and Anantnag, Kulgam, Kupwara, and Bandipora districts of Kashmir. Apart from this the Waltengu Nad, south and north gates of the Jawahar Tunnel, Verinag, Kapran, Chowkibal-NC Pass, Gurez, Dawar, and Neeru are also included in the avalanche-prone areas.

Similarly, a low-level avalanche warning has been issued for the upper reaches of Udhampur, Baramulla, Ganderbal, Sonamarg-Zojila, Z-Gali-Kalaroose, Kanzalwan, Tangmarg, and Gulmarg.

The DMA has earlier issued the warning because during the snowfall the telecommunication sector gets down and it becomes very difficult to warn the people about the avalanche so not putting the lives of people in danger the DMA has issued warnings.

People living in these avalanche-prone areas have been advised to not come out of their homes.
