Referring to the incident of lynching of a Muslim man in Greater Noida over beef rumours, UP Urban Development Minister Azam Khan launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he must rein in his volunteers.
“Prime Minister, please rein in your volunteers. Life, politics and posts are not forever but infamy remains forever. You have not been able to wipe out Gujarat taint and until this world lives, it will never be wiped out. Don’t make your volunteers do these things. Where are you taking the country to?” he said.
Tension prevailed in a village in Dadri after a 52-year-old man was beaten to death and his son seriously injured by a mob which barged into their house following rumours that the family had consumed beef. Around 200 persons attacked the residence of Iqlakh on Monday night after rumours spread in the village that a cow has been slaughtered and the beef was stored in his house, police said on Wednesday.
The mob allegedly beat Iqlakh to death while his 22-year-old son Danish was critically injured in the attack and is undergoing treatment at a hospital, they said. An FIR has been filed against 10 people for attacking the family, six of whom were arrested, police said.
