BCCI President inaugurates Mulapadu Cricket Centre

The newly appointed President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Anurag Thakur formally inaugurated the cricket centre on the premises of Mulapadu Cricket Stadium in Vijaywada on Monday. The Centre which is spread over 13-acres of land has been developed at a cost of Rs 7 crore. It will have eight suites, twenty rooms, a gymnasium, a swimming pool and a conference hall. The Krishna District Cricket Association (KDCA) owns the Mulapadu Cricket Stadium and it’s two play-fields were inaugurated earlier by BCCI vice-president and Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) secretary Gokaraju Gangaraju.
Gangaraju had said that the hills surrounding the stadium would be apt for promotion of activities like trekking and mountaineering. If locals can contribute, the place can become a major tourist spot. “The presence of wildlife such as wild boars, peacocks, sambar (deer), wildcats and others can be a major tourist attraction,” he said, as quoted by thehindu.com. The venue with its greenery and superb atmosphere, has hosted inter-district, zonal and BCCI junior cricket tournaments in the past. According to Gangaraju another tournament is set to begin soon to see how things shape up in the newly-developed stadium. He said – “Soon we will buy buses to ferry players from Vijayawada. From May 10, we are stagingan under-16 inter-district tournament to test the wickets and the playfield.”
