Hitting out State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership for its criminal silence over the issues of Jammu region in the State Assembly, State Resident, Shri Ram Sena, Rajiv Mahajan, said that it sold its ideology in the hand of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the sake of power in the State.
Reacting on the statement of Finance Minister Dr Haseeb Drabu on tax imposed on helicopter service to Mata Vaishnodevi, Rajiv Mahajan warned Drabu that if the service tax was not rolled back, it can lead to Amaranth land row-like situation, for which he (Drabu) would be fully responsible.
Finance minister in the floor of the Legislative Assembly today said that there is no proposal to roll back the tax imposed on helicopter service to Mata Vaishno Devi and Amarnath Shrine in Jammu and Kashmir.
By justifying the decision to impose the service tax, the finance minister was knowingly playing with the sentiments of lakhs of Hindu pilgrims, said Rajiv Mahajan.
“The finance minister should know that the issue of service tax is directly related to the aspirations of lakhs of pilgrims across India and, especially, in J-K,” he said.
Mahajan said that recent Assembly session witnessed the Jammu based legislators obediently succumbing to the dictates of their Kashmir counterparts. He said that rather than fighting for the cause of Jammu region they maintained a compliant and obsequious posture thus submitting to the whims of a largely dominant PDP leadership and playing a second fiddle to them by endorsing their policies and programmes.
Accusing the BJP of perpetuating bias against Jammu region, Rajiv said that the State BJP which had been adopting an aggressive posture in public and giving high pitched slogans of ending all forms of discrimination during elections and claiming that was the first party which had objected to the imposition of service tax adopted silence over the issue only to appease PDP for the sake of power and keep its leadership in good humour for petty personal gains.
