Kathua, May 15:
A large number of people from Bani area including BJP activists, GREF labourers took out protest march in the town and held protest demonstration against Forest Minister Ch Lal Singh and Forest Department for not releasing the machinery of GREF authorities engaged on Basohli- Bani Road.
The irate protesters also tried to Gherao the residence of MLA Jeevan Lal, which was later on foiled by police. Protesters lodged protest against the staff of Forest department and the concerned minister, for their act leading to stoppage of road work on Basohli- Bani road.
Observing mass protest, BJP MLA Bani Jeevan Lal also joined the protesters and termed the decision of the Minister as unfortunate. He said that hundreds of poor labourers of the area have lost their job due to this act of the Forest Minister and his staff.
“The people of Bani want development and work on this road is going on for the last more than two decades. About 15 more roads have been sanctioned under PMGSY in the area recently. Will they stop work on all these roads ? If GREF has taken Forest clearance and paid compensation, then why the work was stopped and their machines seized,” MLA Bani said and further told protestors that DFO has assured that machines will be released by afternoon.
On the assurance of MLA workers resumed work on Bani Basohli road till evening. Later on during the evening BJP Bani unit and GREF workers jointly called on Bani Bandh forTuesday keeping in view non realease of Machnies by Forest department.
BJP Mandal president Thakur Dass strongly condemned the act of Forest Department and warned that now on Forest Minister and Department will be responsible for Law and Order situation at Bani.
