Bone Mineral Density camp held at CHC Akhnoor

Today on 14-06-2016; a BMD camp was organised at CHC Akhnoor where about 120 patients were screened by Dr Nipun Kalsotra, Orthopaedician, out of which 20 patients were having osteoporosis and 42 patients were found to be having Osteopenia (closed to osteoporosis) under the supervision of Dr Vinod Kumar, Block Medical Officer, Akhnoor.
This is a simple and reliable method for screening osteoporosis in OPD patients.
It is based on principle of T-Score. Normal value of T-Score should be -1 or more. Values between -1 and -2.5 are considered to be Osteopenia and values less than -2.5 are considered to be osteoporosis.
Similar camps shall be also conducted in other CHC/PHC’s of Block Akhnoor for early detection of Osteoporosis and Osteopenia, so that patients can understand risk factors for the disorder and shall also be guided for multifaceted regimen of diet, lifestyle habits, and osteoporosis medications in order to prevent further bone loss and fractures.
