Brave boy awarded posthumously

A brave student was awarded posthumously by the Minister of Public Health Engineering Department, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Choudhary during the 70th Independence Day function in Ramban yesterday. The boy Rakesh Kumar, 14 of 8th class student of Government Middle School, Ladhwal, Batote had lost his life while saving Shalvi Devi, 5 and Payal Devi, 13 of the same school when they were trapped in a flooded stream following the cloud burst on May 12 this year. S P(Headquarter), Mohammad Rafiq Choudhary, Dy SP Traffic National Highway, Kameshwar Puri, Tehsildar (Headquarter), Sunil Kumar Dogra were awarded for the ‘Outstanding Services’ in their respective fields. The National Conference leader, Vishvabandhu Sharma and Indian National Congress leader, Sarpanch Parnote, Choudhary Abdul Gani were awarded for their contribution in maintaining communal harmony. Kanika Raju of Ramban, Gazala Latif of Banihal and Manzar Azam of Sangaldan were awarded for securing 87.6 percent marks in 12th, 93.4 percent marks in 10th class exams and MBBS seat in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi respectively.
