March 12: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited today commissioned 4G WiFi hotspot services at Srinagar International Airport, here.
The service was inaugurated by Dr Asgar Samoon, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, in presence of Muhammad Salim Beg, General Manager Telecom, Kashmir, M G Mufti, DGM Srinagar, R K Shinde, Director Airport Authority and Manzoor Ahmad, SSP (AHJ) Srinagar, a PIB handout here said.
Speaking on the occasion, Samoon, who was the chief guest, welcomed the initiative of the company and hoped the new service will help the passengers in general and tourists in particular.
He said in today’s world of information technology net connectivity is not a luxury, but a necessity. The Div Com stressed the need for up-gradation of more facilities at the airport like night landing. He also called for introducing concessions in air fares, particularly during peak tourist season, an official statement said.
While briefing the Divisional Commissioner about the BSNL WiFi hotspot facility, GM BSNL said the passengers can avail free 4G equivalent WiFi hotspot facility for first 15 minutes at the airport and then can opt for paid options as per the minutes required.
Dr Samoon asked the BSNL authorities to introduce similar facility at hospitals and other public places to benefit locals as well as tourists.
BSNL officials informed the DivCom that the telecom company is also planning to launch free WiFi hotspot facility at about 100 places including Lal Chowk, Press Enclave, SKIMS and Boulevard road along the banks of Dal Lake in coming months.
In his address, GMT Kashmir, Salim Beg said the services will be extended to other parts of Kashmir to facilitate customers with high speed internet service through Wi Fi hotspots.
A spokesperson for BSNL informed that the passengers/users have to login after turning on WiFi services on Laptop/Smartphone or any wireless devise.
The BSNL-TWiFi prompt will come on the screen and the user has to register. The user will be provided with OTP (One time password). After verification the users will access browsing with BSNL Wi Fi Hot spot.
The first 15 minutes will be free and after that if the user wants to continue they will be redirected to payment gateway after selecting the desired plan.
