Chess body to touch 2 lakh students in J&K


All Jammu and Kashmir Chess Association has decided to touch a record number of around two lakh young students under a special programme launched by World Chess Federation—Chess in School in the next two years.

To achieve the distinctive goal, the state has been divided into Kashmir and Jammu Divisions with separate committees set up for the purpose of achieving the desired results.

This was stated by president of the Association, Atul Gupta in an interaction with the media, here today. He said, “Jammu Division is led by chairman, Kuljeet Singh Jawmal while Raj Kumar has been named co-chairman and Arun Manhas as secretary. Similarly, in Khalid Amin shall head the Kashmir Division with AR Wani as co-chairman and Ashiq Ahmad as secretary.”

Other Members: Jammu: Sumit Grover (organizing secretary); Dr A S Bhatia (advisor); Taranvir Singh Gujral (patron). Kashmir: Arshid (organizing secretary); Mohd.Farooq Dhar (patron).

President of the Association, Atul Gupta shall remain chief patron and chief planner of activities related to both the divisional committees.

Meanwhile, it was also disclosed in the press conference that the Association has decided to hold inter-school chess tournament in collaboration with Tiny Tots School, Sainik Colony at Sainik Colony here from May 13 to May 16. The overall winners of this event shall be getting prize money of Rs 10000 as also six other category prizes worth Rs 1000 each along with medals and certificates.

Also present were vice presidents of the Association, Baldev Raj and Taranvir Singh Gujral; advisor, Dr.AS Bhatia, press secretary, Kuljeet Singh Jamwal and Raj Kumar.
