Jammu Tawi, May 30
JKPCC Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma has said that the news of observing ceasefire on borders by both countries as per 2003 agreement, sounds good, after four years of bloody skirmishes on the borders and LOC, which witnessed large targeting of innocent civilians including women and children and avoidable sacrifices of large number of our Jawans.
We wish that much desired calm prevails on the borders, so that our people along borders and LOC heave a sigh of relief from being under the constant trauma of facing deaths and destruction all the time, their children not able to study or enjoy their childhood and crops and livestock getting destroyed or killed on regular basis .
Although it is quite good, if good sense prevails and ever lasting peace is restored on the borders but it is hard earned peace after so much of sacrifices and lot of sufferings of border people. As against 70 ceasefire violations in 2010, 62 in 2011, 112 in 2012 etc during UPA regime, it suddenly rose to 583 in 2014, 970 in 2016, 860 in 2017 and so far 908 violations this year, thus crossing over 3000 mark during 4 years of NDA regime, which claimed large number of Jawans and Civilians getting martyred on borders during the period.
Modi ji before and after coming to power assured that Pakistan would dare not to target India. When Pak escalated tension, intensified shelling and increased support to terror groups our Government also claimed that after surgical Strike, the terror training camps have been destroyed and Pak would come to terms and desist from misadventures but again the experience was very bad. Even Modi ji’s unexpected and unscheduled visit to Lahore, could not bring positive change and rather an emboldened Pakistan intensified fidayeen attacks on our Army installations and increased infiltrations and support to terrorist activities in the state. Neither the Pakistan had stopped shelling nor lessened support to terrorism and even the infiltrations had increased in the recent past, still it is good that our Home Minister indicated positively to Pakistan, against the stated position, which at the same time has been again reiterated by the foreign Minister in her recent statements. In the wake of this there are confusing signals but peace initiatives have to be carried forwards against odds, for which present government has right to choose the right course and timing.
However, one can safely question BJP what had changed now, in the wake of their earlier rhetorics revolving around 56 inch chest and eye to eye approach, especially in the atmosphere in the already strained relations between two neighbours. Unfortunately sometimes past BJP and Modi Government believed that touching emotions of electorate by fiery speeches in most important for them, than minimizing the human loss and sufferings of border people. Contrary to this Dr. Manmohan Singh led UPA government kept steady and studied relations with Pakistan while maintaining pace with the changing situations, at times, which is evident from the comparative figures of the various parameters of the situations during the relevant period.
