In order to reduce the traffic congestion on the Jammu-Srinagar Highway and easing out the commuters from the frequent traffic jams, Ramky Infrastructure Limited Tuesday started its work on the constructing of four-lane near Lasjan Bypass. However, as soon as the workers started their operation, a large number of land owners took to road and demanded stoppage or work.
The protesting land owners alleged that after land acquisition, government did not compensate them. They said that they will not allow government to work on the 4-lane till government did not clear their dues.
Eyewitnesses said that Ramky workers fled from the spot after the protest, while police charged the protesting land-owners with canes and arrested some of them who tried to resort to violence.
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Farooq Ahmed Lone said that they are waiting for the court orders and once court permits, compensation will be distributed among land owners. He added that at Lasjan- Bypass (Budgam) out of 11.7 kms from Gallander to Lasjan, compensation of ten kilometers has already been disbursed among the landowners.
