CRPF Jawan, Revenue Officer dies of COVID-19 in Kashmir, J&K toll 434

A senior Revenue Officer and a CRPF Jawan died of COVID-19 in Kashmir, thus taking the toll of deaths due to the virus to 434 in Jammu and Kashmir. With fresh deaths, the toll has crossed 400-mark in the Valley.

Officials told said that four patients who died today include a 55-year-old patient from Molu Chitragam, an 82-year-old man from Nowgam Srinagar, an 80-year-old male from Malbagh Srinagar and a 68-year-old woman from Handwara.

An official said that a 55-year-old senior Revenue Officer from Molu Chitragam who was presently posted as Naib Tehsildar Wachi Shopian died of COVID-19 on Wednesday evening. DDC Shopian and many other officers especially from Revenue department have expressed grief over his demise.

“It’s with huge grief that we share the demise of our Naib Tehsildar, Wachi Maqbool Wani Sb after he lost his battle against Covid y’day at SKIMS. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. He was a gentle, hardworking man & an asset for the Distt. May Allah SWT grant him Jannat.Aameen,” DDC Shopian Dr Yasin Choudhary tweeted.

An official from SKIMS Soura said that an 82-year-old man from Nowgam Srinagar who was admitted on 03 August died on Thursday.

He added that an 80-year-old man from Malbagh Srinagar who was admitted on 05 August also died on Thursday.

An official from SMHS said that a 68-year-old woman from Handwara who was admitted on 28 July with hypertension and bilateral Pneumonia died on Thursday. He said that her first COVID swab was positive while as her second report is awaited.

Earlier, a CRPF man belonging to 176 battalion died at SKIMS Soura. He had tested COVID-19 negative on July 25 but his X-ray showed bilateral lower pneumonia. He was shifted first to BSF hospital and later to SKIMS Soura where he tested positive. He suffered cardiac arrest.

Also, a 50-year-old woman from Kupwara died this morning at Chest Diseases hospital Srinagar. Admitted on July 28, the woman was suffering from pneumonia with hypertension and hypothyroidism. She was on ventilator and had a sudden cardiopulmonary arrest.

Meanwhile, a 70-year-old from Sirhama Bijbehara, a 55-year-old man from Pattan Baramulla, a 65-year-old man from S K Colony Anantnag and a 50-year-old from Srinagar died.

The woman from Sirhama Bijbehara, a surgical patient was admitted on July 25, died at SKIMS today while the 65-year-old resident from SK Colony area of the South Kashmir district, admitted on August 2, died last night at SKIMS.

The 55-year-old man from Pattan was a resident of Goshbugh area and was suffering from bilateral pneumonia. He was admitted to SMHS hospital on July 27 and died today.

And sample of a 50-year-old man from Srinagar’s Bemina area who also died at SMHS hospital tested positive posthumously.

With four deaths, the death toll in J&K had reached to 434 including 403 from Kashmir division and 31 from Jammu division.
