Curfew partially lifted in violence hit Rajouri, tension prevails

Curfew was partially lifted today in violence hit Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu and Kashmir Government has also suspended the Naib Tehsildar for allegedly ‘’provoking’’ and ‘’instigating’’ the clashes between two communities, which forced district administration to enforce curfew. Meanwhile, four people have been arrested so far for escalating the violence.
The district administration has suspended two senior officers, including a naib tehsildar and a Zonal Physical Education Officer (ZEPO), for “instigating” people to indulge in vandalism and violence. The ZEPO has been attached with the office of the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu. An uneasy calm prevailed throughout the day in the town, which saw deployment of security personnel of the Army, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and the J&K Police. The administration has decided not to lift the curfew as a preventive measure.
