Day 34: Curfew in more areas, life remains crippled

A day after Rajya Sabha unanimously resolved to restore the confidence of the people of the valley through dialogue process, curfew was extended to more areas in Kashmir valley, particularly Srinagar to foil ‘Eidgah Challo’ called by separatists.

Meanwhile, life remained paralyzed for the 34th day today due to curfew, restrictions and strike in Kashmir valley, where 57 people were killed in security force firing since July 9, a day after Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani and two other militants were killed in an encounter in Anantnag.

However, Moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Maulvi Umar Farooq said he will defy house arrest restrictions and curfew to lead a rally to Martyrs Grave yard in Eidgah to pay homage to Sheikh Abdul Aziz, who was killed in alleged security force firing on this day in 2008.

Official sources said that besides Pampore in south Kashmir on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, curfew was today extended to some parts of summer capital, including uptown and civil lines to foil ‘Eidgah Challo’ called by both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC) and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), spearheading the present agitation in Kashmir from July 9.
