DDB Shopian approves Rs 81.61 cr annual plan

Minister for Public Works and Parliamentary Affairs Abdul Rehman Veeri Wednesday asked officers to ensure inclusive development by creating productive assets at district level.
The minister who is also chairman of district development board Shopian was addressing district development board meeting here.
Minister for Revenue, Relief & Rehabilitation, Syed Basharat Bukhari, Vice-Chairman Advisory Board for Gujjar & Bakerwals Choudhary Zaffar Ali, Legislators Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, Aijaz Ahmad Mir, Zafar Iqbal Manhas, and Showkat Ahmad Ganai also attended the meeting besides Heads of various departments, Chief Engineers, Deputy Commissioner Shopian and sectoral and district officers.
The minister asked officers to be vibrant and proactive in resolving the people’s problems. He asked them to conceive developmental projects in such a way that the same are completed within the set time frame to avoid any cost overrun. He urged officers to make sincere efforts for timely implementation of state and central sponsored schemes so that tangible results are realised on the ground. Veeri also stressed the need for providing proper awareness of all schemes initiated by the government for the welfare of the people.
The board approved plan outlay of Rs 81.61 crore for current financial year to execute various developmental project and welfare schemes in the district. Of this Rs 19.27 crore would be utilised under Rural Development, Rs 5.69 crore under minor irrigation, Rs 14.97 crore under R&B, Rs 20 Crore under education sector, while as Rs 2.42 crore would be spent for providing better health services and Rs 2.12 crore for augmentation of water supply.
The board also reviewed action taken report of previous year’s board decisions and chief minister’s commitments. It was informed that all the decisions and commitments have been fully implemented in the district.
The minister was informed that 89 km of road length has been macadamized while as target of macadamised of 150 km road length has
been fixed for current financial year. The minister was informed that a big dream project of Ex- Chief Minister Late Mufti Mohammad Syed has been cleared by initiating widening and up-gradation of Bijbehare-Shopian road under Central Road Fund. The 18 km road shall be of two lane nature which costs Rs 48.93crore.
The minster was informed that 6 number of road project stands approved under NABARD at an estimated cost of Rs 30.14 crore. Under PHE Sector it was informed that 2 water supply schemes covering 5 habitations and benefiting 8542 souls have been completed at a cost of Rs 7 crore at Reban Khujpora and Arhama.
The minister was informed that irrigation canal have been completed at as cost of Rs 8.91 crore during last financial year while as 3 irrigations schemes having command area od 348 acres are being taken up during current financial year at an estimated cost of Rs 1.75 crore. The meeting was informed that during last financial year Rs 21.12 crore have been utilised under MGNREGA, generating 6.50 lakh mandays of work while as during current financial year 18.33 crore have been proposed to be spend under MGNREGA.
